Fresh Mex: Beyond The Taco
When it comes to Mexican food, there’s more to this popular cuisine than meets the eye. Join Chef Dana Holland as he takes your taste buds beyond the typical tacos, enchiladas and tostadas. No more craving the bell.
Chef Dana has traveled extensively around the country to places like California and the southwest and, along the way, he’s experienced and learned to prepare fresh food that showcases the rich and diverse culture found in small family-owned Mexican restaurants. Chef will teach a few of his top picks tonight, along with some essential culinary techniques and tips as you learn to recipes that are sure to blow your socks off.
He’ll get things started with a spicy Pomeganate Michelada cocktail made with Mexican beer and tequila. Ay-ya-ya!
Then, you’ll tie on an apron and help with some of the cooking activities alongside Chef Dana while he shows you how to create dishes like Budin de Maiz con Camarones Veracruzano (fresh flan with sautéed shrimp and peppers), Cochinita Pibil (Annatto, chili & orange marinated pork roast wrapped in banana leaves), a spicy slaw, and more. For a sweet ending, you’ll learn a Mexican classic - Sopapillas topped with Mexican Chocolate Sauce.
These new favorites will open your mind as you learn to use a variety of classic south-of-the-border spices to create new and different meals that are spicy, mild, sweet, and more. This interesting and informative class will change the way you view (and cook) Mexican cuisine. Promise.
