If you want to cook Asian cuisine you MUST know the fundamental ingredients. The essential ingredients that appear over and over in regional Asian cuisine. It’s not hard to get that authentic flavor; it just takes right ingredients and the know-how.
This morning for this special class, we’ll meet at 888 International Market & Café (10118 W 119th St., Overland Park) for a walking tour of an authentic Asian Market with an experienced Chef who is well-versed in Asian cuisine and who knows how to explain it so you’ll understand how to shop at an Asian market.
Chef Dana Holland will cover seafood, meat, produce, and lots of other products as you make your way through the aisles as a group as he shows you where to find unusual ingredients like fish sauce, miso, meats, Asian spices, and interesting vegetables and fruits that you’ve probably never heard of and, even if you have, you don’t know how to use them or why you must have these essentials in your pantry, if your goal is to learn to prepare authentic Asian dishes.
When your tour is completed, you’ll meet up with Chef Dana again in our kitchen at The Culinary Center for a hands-on Asian cooking class as he shows you how to use the Asian ingredients you’ve learned about to create several tasty recipes. He’ll greet you with a steamed dish, then you’ll learn about Asian stir fry (with and without a wok), and so much more.
Once you’re familiar with the ingredients and where to find them, you’ll be making Asian “take-out” right in your own kitchen. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind comprehensive culinary experience.
