A Festive Paella Cooking Party with Chef Dana Holland
The holidays are in full swing, so now is the perfect time to get a group of friends together for a fun and interactive cooking party to celebrate the season.
Join Chef Dana Holland in the kitchen and learn how to make that centuries old Spanish dish known as Paella. Once you learn the tricks, you’ll be creating your own version of this wonderful one-dish meal that is as perfect for weeknight meals as it is for entertaining year-round!
We’ll start with a festive Ruby Red Sangria and some little tapas because, well, we’re in Spain tonight, right? Chef will explain what a paella is and its history, then he will offer up “must-do” tips for delicious and proper paella.
Learn to create three versions : a classic Seafood Paella that features shrimp, mussels and calamari, a Traditional ‘Country’ Paella a la Valenciana with farm-fresh ingredients, and a modern Vegetable Paella with savory roasted vegetables and sherry wine representing the new wave of Spanish chefs who are reinterpreting the dish, often to the consternation of older chefs and food aficionados alike.
Chef really knows how to use the aromatic mixtures of rice, meats, and spices which add the “flare” to Spanish dishes like Paella. It’s step -by-step through the process of creating this fabulous dish, starting with Sofrito, a sautéed mixture of onions, peppers, garlic and tomato that add so much flavor to this incredible dish. We’ll learn how to make Paella’s unmistakable saffron-scented rice and how to develop layers of flavor to take this dish into the realm of “oh-my-gosh” goodness.
Then you will throw on an apron and cook in small groups to create these wonderful dishes. Of course, you’ll taste them. How could we not? If I were you, I wouldn’t miss this one!
