Giving up dairy products, especially cheese, can play a huge factor in choosing to transition to a vegan lifestyle. And if you or a family member is lactose intolerant, you shouldn’t have to give up the experience that comes from the creamy taste of dairy. 

Chef LaDonna Johnson uses her cooking know-how and expertise to show you how easy it is to create realistic cheese substitutes that taste great and are free of dairy.   

This is an introductory class that will begin with a discussion of the various ingredients, such as cashews, with a Plant-Based Basic Cheese Sauce that she will show you how to make. 

Then, she’ll talk about variations on this basic cheese sauce and go over cooking techniques and recipes that you’ll need to know in order to bring the great taste of cheese back into your life. She'll also include a lesson on making sliceable cheese. 

Chef LaDonna showed our staff at The Culinary Center of Kansas City a couple of her recipe and we were HOOKED! If you think we’re kidding, you should taste her Mac 'n Cheese!  It was “cheese-ilicous!” The authentic taste and texture totally surprised us, and it will do the same to the more skeptical among you.   

Today, you’ll learn to make that delicious Mac 'n Cheese, Green Chili Queso Dip, a great sliceable cheese, and an Alfredo Sauce to beat the band.  Let’s get cheesy, shall we?

In order to comply with governmental orders and for the protection of our guests and staff, we ask that you wear a mask when here at The Culinary Center of Kansas City. If you are planning to sit next to someone else attending the class, we would suggest arriving at least 20 minutes prior to the start time of the class so that we can address that request.  Both students would need to be comfortable with the request to be seated together.
