Plant-Based Cooking: Artisan Vegan Cheesemaking
Giving up dairy products, especially cheese, can play a huge factor in choosing to transition to a vegan lifestyle. And if you or a family member is lactose intolerant, you shouldn’t have to give up the experience that comes from the creamy taste of dairy.
Chef LaDonna Johnson uses her cooking know-how and expertise to show you how easy it is to create realistic cheese substitutes that taste great and are free of dairy.
This is an introductory class that will begin with a discussion of the various ingredients, such as cashews, with a Plant-Based Basic Cheese Sauce that she will show you how to make.
Then, she’ll talk about variations on this basic cheese sauce and go over cooking techniques and recipes that you’ll need to know in order to bring the great taste of cheese back into your life.
Chef LaDonna showed our staff at The Culinary Center of Kansas City a couple of her recipe and we were HOOKED! If you think we’re kidding, you should taste her Mac 'n Cheese! It was “cheese-ilicous!” The authentic taste and texture totally surprised us, and it will do the same to the more skeptical among you.
Today, you’ll learn to make that delicious Mac 'n Cheese, Green Chili Queso Dip and an Alfredo Sauce to beat the band. Let’s get cheesy, shall we?
