Ahhh....puff pastry…….you’ve seen it in bakery cases and on fancy restaurant dessert trays. But did you know that those elegant layers of thinly sheeted dough and butter can easily be put together in your own kitchen to create delicate, flaky and exquisite desserts for your family and friends. Sound impossible? It’s not, and tonight's culinary instructor and expert Pastry Chef Erik Sharp, is in our kitchen to show you the way.

Chef Erik has been creating beautiful pastries for many years as Pastry Chef for Kansas City’s renowned American Restaurant, former owner of Three Spoons of Sugar, and more. He’s the real deal, folks. He’ll teach essential baking techniques such as mixing, measuring, shaping as he prepares this versatile dough and demonstrates the lamination process, and more, and then how to use it to make beautifully presented desserts and pasties. 

He’ll teach items like Cheese Straws – a simple and savory appetizer, show you different “shells” and use them to construct a fruit tart, flaky fruit turnovers, Palmier, and more.

This fabulous pastry dough can also be used to wrap meats and cheese, such as baked brie. This topic really gets Chef Erik’s brain going because puff pastry dough is virtually unlimited in its use so don’t be surprised if he talks about “bonus” items that you can make from this dough…..because, well,  he can’t help himself!. Each student will create classic Palmier to take home.
