Description:

We are excited to partner with the Fine Arts Theatre Group again to offer this limited enrollment and very special foodie event and preview of the movie Breaking Bread which is a slice-of-life film that illustrates what happens when people choose to focus on the person, rather than the politics or religion.

Dr. Nof Atamna-Ismaeel - the first Muslim Arab to win Israel's MasterChef - is on a quest to make social change through food. And so, she founded the A-sham Arabic Food Festival, where pairs of Arab and Jewish chefs collaborate on exotic and flavorful dishes.  What happens is magical and a true example of what happens when the walls of judgement are broken down.

We’ll begin at The Culinary Center of Kansas City for a wine tasting where we will sample two authentic Israeli wines.  Then we’ll enjoy ‘small plates’ inspired by some of the foods discussed and seen in the movie.  The menu will include Matzo Ball Soup, an Arab/Israeli Salad, Maqluba and for dessert, a Malabi.  Chef Daniel Etherton, an accomplished chef who practiced the craft of Middle Eastern cuisine in Tel Aviv, will lead us in a cooking demonstration as well and you’ll receive recipes to recreate these wonderfully flavorful dishes in your own kitchen!  We’ll also hear from Fine Arts Theatre Owner Brian Mossman who will discuss the film.   A must-attend event for so many reasons, but especially by those who love food and cooking.
