ONLINE CLASS: Tasting Ukraine – Connection Through Food, A Cooking Class To Benefit Ukrainian Refugees
Wed 4/13/22    6:30-9:00 p.m.  $75

Instructors: Local Kansas City Ukrainian Cooks, with assistance from The Culinary Center of Kansas City Chef & Lead Instructor Jill Garcia Schmidt

Class Description:

One of the best ways to understand a culture is through its food. It’s a window into how its people live day-to-day, its terroir and ultimately it is evidence of our connection as humans. We decided to use our platform as a culinary arts center to highlight the very real humanitarian crisis in Ukraine by inviting local cooks and chefs to come and show us how to create some of the classic dishes of the Ukraine. This is your chance to help and at that same time gain a deeper understanding of the people who are being most affected by this humanitarian crisis.

Tonight you will learn not only how to create the beloved food of Ukraine but you will also hear the stories that go with this food from the people who know it best.   The proceeds from this class will be donated to World Central Kitchen, a project of Chef Jose Andres, currently on the front lines of hunger serving millions of meals to families across Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova & Hungary.  (wck.org #chefsforukraine).

Please join us as these special guests, with the assistance of Lead Instructor Chef Jill Garcia Schmidt, show you how to make beloved Ukrainian dishes such as Veriniki (cheese & potato stuffed dumplings similar to Pierogi), Borscht, Cabbage Rolls & Chicken Kiev. We promise you’ll leave enlightened and more consciously connected to Ukraine and its people, as well with the knowledge that you have done something to assist their crisis.
