Join us in welcoming Cookbook Authors, Scientists and Experienced Bakers Chris Taylor & Paul Arguin in this fun and interactive Master Class on modern cookie-making techniques, as they travel the country speaking and teaching about their newest cookbook Fabulous Modern Cookies - Lessons In Better Baking For Next Generation Treats. These engaging authors are passionate about melding science and baking through creative flavors and unique techniques. And today is your chance to discover what they know.
Chris Taylor and Paul Arguin are National Pie Championship winners and award-winning cookie bakers. Their debut cookbook 'The New Pie'was named one of NPR's Best Cookbooks of 2019 and finalists for 2 IACP Cookbook Awards, both indications of their skills in the kitchen and as educators. Both formally trained scientists, Taylor holds a PhD in epidemiology and Arguin is a double board-certified physician with an MD. They are completely self-taught bakers but don't let that fool you, these two know their stuff.
Today's Master Class will include a personalized autographed copy ofFabulous Modern Cookies ($25 value) and will cover techniques such as crafting the toffee flavor enhancing "bronze butter" as well as the 'tangzhong' technique, a method normally used in bread-making but here applied to cookie-making produces unexpected textures and flavors. Not to be outdone, the two will cover a savory 'cookie' which covers special rolling techniques and methods as well as blowing the top off of your pre-conceived notion of what a cookie really is. Along the way, you will get hands-on practice alongside the authors in this rare opportunity.
