Junior Chefs (9-14): Baking Fundamentals: Kids Make Homemade Muffins & Scones

We’re firing up the ovens and getting ready for an interactive morning of baking fun with Chef Nancy Vendetti. She’ll get things started as she shares her impressive talents while teaching budding bakers (ages 9-14) how easy it is to make homemade classics like Buttermilk Scones (including variations to add some variety to this basic scone). They’ll also learn to make Chocolate Chip Muffins. As Chef Nancy says, ‘what kid (or adult!) doesn’t love chocolate ‘cake’ for breakfast! She'll end with yummy oatmeal streusel muffins. So good.
You’ll explore the basic techniques of baking, with Chef Nancy’s signature emphasis on FUN! Get ready to tie on an apron and work in small groups alongside a professional chef as she teaches the ins and outs of mixing, measuring, folding, and more while creating yummy baked goods. Along the way, we’ll emphasize the importance of accuracy in measuring and introduce every chef’s best friend—“mise en place”.
Of course, there will be sampling, and the kids will leave with all the recipes and confidence to make fresh scones and muffins at home for their family to enjoy on New Year’s Day. A perfect fundamentals class for young cooks!

- For kids ages 9-18attending this class, we require A Waiver signed by parent/legal guardian prior to admittance to this class: [Click here to download the Waiver] Note that the Waiver requires that you provide (1) a phone number where you can be reached during the class if necessary and (2) name(s) of any additional people who are authorized to pick up the child after class. We encourage you to print off a copy of this Waiver, sign it and either 1) scan and email it to email@example.com or 2) bring it to class with your student. Without an appropriately signed Waiver your child will not be allowed to attend class. We are sorry but we cannot make any exceptions to this rule. Also note that If someone other than the parent signs a Waiver, they will need a legal document to be presented that shows without question that they have the legal authority to sign a Waiver on behalf of your child at that time.
- Only registered students allowed in the classroom during class. While we love those parents/grand-parents, aunts & uncles, they will not be allowed to attend ‘just to watch their child’ without registering for the class. You are welcome to enjoy our Kitchen Shop Experience while your child, age 9 and up, is attending.
