Menus & Murphini - ‘BIG NIGHT’ Dinner

Class Description:
Hey foodies! Don your favorite ‘Stanley Tucci white dinner jacket’ and practice your Louis Prima songs because, back by popular demand, we’re recreating the food, wine and atmosphere from the cult foodie flick “Big Night.” You know, the one set in the 1950’s where brothers Primo and Secondo create a fantastic Italian meal to save their flailing old school Italian restaurant. Yes, that one!
And here to help us in the celebration is our Facebook-posting wanna-be chef pal John Murphy (a/k/a Johnny Murphini) who, as you know, creates a party wherever he brings his guitar and mic stand.
The multi-course menu will be straight out of the movie complete with the infamous Italian dish known as Timpano. Traditionally made in a metal washtub, this dish starts with a layer of pastry dough, then it’s filled with layers of Italian favorites such as sausage, ragu, peas and pasta, and finally sealed with another layer of pastry dough and baked. When it comes out of the oven, it is flipped over to much build-up and applause before it’s cut like a torte.
We’ll try and stay as close to the movie as we can get, right down to the tables dressed in white linens, the Louis Prima music, the wine, the parade of tasty dishes and some other surprises. And maybe, just maybe, Johnny Murphini will close out the night playing songs from the 8-track tapes of your misspent youth to your favorite college bar sing-a-longs. Will he play from the ‘Big Night’ soundtrack? You’ll have to register to find out! Feel free to dress any part of this 1950’s classic foodie flick..or not. No judging in this kitchen. Mangia!
